Apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9barquement fortuit des Portugais sur l'\u00eele de Tanegashima en 1543, le Japon entama de vastes \u00e9changes culturels et commerciaux avec l'Occident, notamment avec les marchands portugais et les missionnaires j\u00e9suites.
\nCette p\u00e9riode, connue sous le nom de \"l'\u00e9poque du commerce Nanban\", dura un si\u00e8cle environ et transforma profond\u00e9ment la politique, l'\u00e9conomie et plus globalement la soci\u00e9t\u00e9 japonaise.<\/em><\/p>\n

Le commerce avec le Portugal permit au Japon d'importer des produits exotiques tels que la soie chinoise, le sucre, le tabac la poudre \u00e0 canon et les premiers mousquets. En \u00e9change, le pays exporta de grandes quantit\u00e9s d'argent, provenant notamment des mines d'Iwami Ginzan, en destination de la Chine et de l'Europe. Ce flux commercial renfor\u00e7a le pouvoir des daimyos, dans un contexte marqu\u00e9 par des rivalit\u00e9s internes constantes aussi bien sur le plan \u00e9conomique que politique.<\/em><\/p>\n

Le ch\u00e2teau de Himeji, symbole du pouvoir f\u00e9odal, fut au centre de ces luttes. Contr\u00f4l\u00e9 \u00e0 l'origine par Oda Nobunaga, qui unifia une grande partie du Japon, puis renforc\u00e9 par Toyotami Hideyoshi, ce ch\u00e2teau devint un centre strat\u00e9gique pour les clans f\u00e9odaux en qu\u00eate d'influence. Pour am\u00e9liorer les fortifications des l'\u00e9difice, de nombreux daimyos utilis\u00e8rent les ressources accumul\u00e9es gr\u00e2ce au commerce ext\u00e9rieur et aux avanc\u00e9es technologiques, renfor\u00e7ant d'autant plus le prestige et les capacit\u00e9s militaires du ch\u00e2teau.<\/em><\/p>\n
